It wasn't very often that Joceline Lindvall was making a fool of herself. She didn't think that she had been made fun of since her second year. So that's why she even surprised herself when she skipped out on dinner to creep into the ball room.
She pushed one of the heavy, elaborate doors so that it was almost closed and set her bag down against the wall. Looking around the room, Josy smiled. It was heavily decorated and beautiful. She loved to be around expensive things, and this was the most beautiful place in hogwarts. The patterned marble floors always glistened and sparkeled and window arangements with heavy, rich-colored drapes looked marvelous. The ceilings were decorated with wood and paintings - everything ust meshed to give off the look of extreme wealth - which is what Josy was used to.
She was still in her uniform, tie tucked into her gray sweater-vest like all the other students. It was quiet for a long time, just the thud of her heels as they hit against the rock of the floor. The surpriseing part came when she began to hum a waltz. Her hips swayed with her own tune and she imagined the last year's Christmas ball. Everything had looked amazing and it was one of the only times she had liked to be around all her fellow classmates. She even twirled around a couple of times and danced around the middle of the floor.

Also out to skip dinner was Adam Cromwell, a 7th year Slytherin. He was walking past the ball room doors when he heard someone humming away in the room, as well as he heard dancing. Curious, he opened the door a little and watched a fellow student dance by herself. She wasn't that bad, he thought the racket was someone who couldn't dance at all. Deciding that her dancing was quite interesting, he opened the door more and slide into the room with the slyness and quietness of a forest fox.

He had slipped in so quietly that Josy hadn't even noticed. Well, she probably wouldn't have noticed if a suit of armour had fallen just outside the doors. After a few moments more, she stopped and smiled at herself. "I look ridiculous." she laughed to herself, folding her arms over her head and looking out a window.

Adam grinned,"You didn't look ridiculous."

A voice startled her back into her old self. Josy spun on her heel towards where it came from and looked at a figure near the door. It was a boy she thought she'd seen around sometimes... maybe it was in the common room? Her voice failed her for a second, emitted only a small first syllable of a word. She swallowed and put her hand on her hip. "Excuse me? Can't you see when some one wants to be alone?" she asked, keeping her distance so he wouldn't be able to see the very llight tinge of pink of her cheeks.

"Actually, I can see that, but I'm not leaving. You can go back to doing what you will, just pretend I'm not here." he said, a hint in his voice complimenting her on her dancing.

Her mouth fell open a little at his response. She either dismissed the complimentary tone or didn't catch it because her tone didn't change. She gave a little half laugh as if to say "I can't belive this guy's so rude." "If you're looking for a show, you're not going to find one here." she said, not budging an inch and determined not to make any more of a fool out of herself.

Adam walked closer, but kept a good distance between the two. "Okay. Suit yourself. But I guess since you can't handle one person watching you, you won't be able to handle all those who will watch you dance if you go to the Christmas ball." He shrugged, it was her decision.

She sighed with aggravation, watching the boy closely. "That's different, dumbass. Everybody's dancing then... and there's music." she said.

"Actually, the only difference is that there's music and more people. I'm just trying to tell you that you're freaking out over one person watching you, so how are you going to handle millions of people watching you float around on the dance floor?" he explained, keeping the same tone of voice that he'd began in.

She rolled her eyes at him. "First of all - I'm not freaking out. Second of all - having a couple thousand more people in here would make a big difference because all eyes are on you. And third of all - ... who are you to come in here and invade my privacy, anyway? the third one, she knew, didn't make that much sense but this boy was getting on her nerves.

"This ball room is open to anyone who wants to come inside. If you wish to have your privacy go somewhere where students aren't allowed." he said, and turned on his heel. He wasn't about to let some 6th year little girl tamper with his nerves.

She furrowed her eyebrows and walked around in front of him. She was not going to give into this guy. "Hey. Don't turn your back on me, Mr. Know-it-all. You said yourself that you knew I wanted to be alone - didn't you have the decency to fucking leave me alone?"

He began to ignore her, and looked at her with a bored expression. "Not all people wish to leave people alone in a place that they are allowed to come."

Her mouth hung open with irritation again. She wanted to smack him so bad. "Like I said before, it's called decency, jackass!" she said, and stomped her foot. This time it was Josy who turned away and walked back to where she had set her bag.
