Another weekend had dawned upon the school of Hogwarts, and Delilah Regan took the chance to get away from the castle. So she headed to Muggle London, and off to the Thames River Bank. There she found a nice shaded spot near a tree. She sat down and took from a bag she'd brought with her a quill and a little notebook. She began to write in Italian.

Mariah poked her head out from the tree above Delilah and examined the writing. "You speak Italian?" she asked. "I speak mostly Spanish, but not many people speak anything else."
ooc: I have to go, I'll be back later. Thankies for inviting me!

Delilah jumped, closing the notebook quickly. She looked up,"I am Italian. So yes, I can speak it. How long have you been up there?"

Mariah grinned as she swung down, landing with a thump in front of Delilah. "Since about seven. It's quiet out here, unless you count the hawks and ravens." She shrugged slightly, studying Delilah before smiling slightly. "Sorry if I startled you. Like I said, it's kinda fun to find someone who knows a different language."

Delilah grinned,"I'm Delilah Regan." She stuck out her hand to shake, but didn't know what Mariah was going to do.

"Same here. So tell me, why is it interesting to you to meet someone that speaks a whole different language?"

She shrugged. "Perhaps because I know so many languages of my own. That, and some of the languages are not as popular as Spanish." She sighed a bit in realization. "It's actually sort of hopeless, I guess. Not many people really care about studying languages these days."

Delilah nodded, and smiled. "Well, be happy there are some that are out there. Or languages would probably die."

She shook her head. "Never. There is always a different way to preserve languages. You just need to remember them. After all, one person could learn all the different languages, couldn't they?"

"They could, but what if they never got around to teach someone all those languages? Then what would happen?" Delilah asked, seeing that this conversing was getting more interuging(sp?) by the mintue.

She tipped her head as if considering this point. "They can preserve it in writing. Ancient Egyptians did so, along with Greeks and Romans. With our new technology and powers, we can preserve this on special papers, along with the pronunciaton and meanings of each word. Although this would take time, it would be worth it."

She grinned. "I would. And besides, with all the power in Hogwarts alone, not just one person would have to do it. If someone could find a group of people with the same ambitions, then it would be done twice as fast, and perhaps even with less effort. In fact, with enough people, the most effort exerted would be that involved in finding the people!" She laughed at this, struck with the image of someone taking time to find all these people, only to find that it was for less than it had appeared.

Delilah smiled again,"I'd love to preserve my writing. I write in Italian, my stories and what not. You don't see many novels in Italian except in Italy."
