Taylor Towler had just finished getting ready for the Christmas Ball. He was dressed in a new tuxedo he had gotten for just this occassion. He took one last look at himself in the mirror and then headed down to the Ravenclaw common room.
**** Sage Ravenclaw was seated on one of the couches by the fire with her favorite book. She looked up when she saw Taylor coming down the stairs. "Hey, Taylor, looking good," she said.
Taylor smiled at the compliment. "Thanks," he said smiling at her. "I take it you're not going to the ball?" "No, I guess I just don't feel like it," She told him, "But I hear Bianka McGonagall will be there." Sage smiled st him. She loved to tease him about his crush on Bianka.
Taylor blushed a little. He hated that Sage knew about him liking Bianka. She could never resist the opportunity to tease him about it. He said nothing not wanting to dignfy the teasing with a response. "I'll see you later, Sage," he said and headed down to the ball.
***** When Taylor entered the Great Hall he saw that Bianka McGonagall was indeed in attendence. He walked over to where she was. "Hello, Bianka," he greeted her. She looked fantastic in the burgandy dress she wore. The color looked really good on her. "You, look great," he said.

"Hi, Taylor," Bianka greeted her fellow Ravenclaw, "Thanks," she said in response to his compliment,"So do you."

"Thanks," Taylor said. He was silent a moment as he tried to think of something else to say. He shuffled his feet nervously. He usually wasn't like this at all. But something about Bianka made him feel....different. He really couldn't put the feeling into words. "Um....Bianka," Taylor began breaking the awkward silence,"Would you like to dance?"

Odette watched the students dance and converse with one another, a smile painted upon her rosy cheeked face. She wasn't expecting anyone to join her, except her sister, Hayley White, who now was 1 month pregnant with Professor Haven's baby. She smoothed down her white gown, and pushed back a few strands of hair that fell in front of her face. It'd been a month since her father's death, but that wasn't going to spoil her fun, and time away from problems. Though inside she was happy and joyous, she looked like she was being a scrooge.

“Why of course,” Jake grinned cheekily to Chole’s comment, and then shook his head. After a couple of minutes of just dancing he looked at her seriously, “Chole – I know I’ve already said this but…” he breathed in and then out quickly, “I am sorry about how I treated you before the Halloween dance. You really are the most…” he searched his mind for the right word, “…exceptional, amazing, dazzlingly beautiful,” he laughed slightly as she said the last two words, “girl I’ve ever met, and you deserve so much more than the way I treated you,” he lifted his hand off her hip and ran it through her hair, “Am I forgiven?”
Cammie grinned slightly wider, trying not to show how happy she felt about Jacob actually giving a damn, “Well, that was the wrong thing to say, sir Knight, cause now you’re lumbered with me,” she said. However just then a hand tugged on her arm, she looked around to see one of her best friends. “Oh, Jacob this is one of my friends Maggie, Maggie, Jacob,” she introduced before her friend said “Cammie, a word? Cammie nodded and said, “Be right back…”
“You can’t go to the ball with him,” Maggie complained.
“Why?”
“He’s a Slytherin. He probably only wants one thing…”
Cammie shook her head, looking over at Jacob from where they stood and saying, “Hey, he’s not like that he’s… kinda… nice.”
“Yeah? He wants you to think that… you hardly even know him! He’s so totally playing you! You heard what that guy, Jake Higgs did to Scar didn’t you?” Maggie replied, making reference to Scarlette and Jake’s argument at the Halloween ball.
Cammie shook her head, “Oh come on… he’s all cute and innocent,” she replied. Maggie shook her head and said “It’s your funeral.” and walked off to her date. Cammie couldn’t believe how the other girl was acting, but she now had a lingering feeling of doubt about Jacob, the words “You hardly even know him!” ringing in her ears. However she made her way back to Jacob and said, “Sorry about that… she wanted to talk about girl stuff,” Cammie always found the excuse ‘girl stuff’ scared guys off of asking what they talked about, that and suggesting anything about being on her period.
Eryn nodded, “Cool, my mum was Chinese, but I can only speak a little of the language,” she grinned, “I once went to China to bring in the New Year, it was amazing!”
Dawn smiled and poured him his juice, noticing the cute smile but pretending to ignore it. She’d been at this school seven years, and only now where any hot guys seeming to arise – they’d been two in as many months, and that was a lot in her books. Lance and the boy from the Lake at the Halloween ball, she wondered if he was attending the Christmas ball tonight. “So anyway, you look smart, where’s your date?”
Amber rubbed Andy’s back slightly, “Hey… shh… it’s alright,” she said, among other calming, comforting sounds, “It’s okay… it’s going to be okay.” Amber had never been the best for comforting other girls, but she tried her best.

Chole blushed through his whole statement to her. She lent her head into his hand like a cat, closing her eyes for a few seconds. Reopening them, she looked at Jake. She smiled, and nodded. "You are forgiven."
Jacob waited for Cammie to come back, after nodding to Maggie in greeting. When she came back he smiled, happy to see that he now could spend more time with her. He nodded to her comment about girl stuff, and didn't say anything about it. "Would you care to dance?" he asked, hoping she'd say yes.
Rei smiled. "You did? Cool. Where in China was your mother from?"
Lance almost spit his juice back into his cup,"D-Date? I.... I don't have one." He gave an innocent look, and smiled. "I came alone. Wasn't expecting anyone to go with me anyways."

"You are forgiven."
Jake smiled slightly, “I hoped you’d say that… cause if you hadn’t I dunno if I’d be able to stop myself from doing this…” he lent forward slightly and brushed his lips gently against hers.
Cammie looked up into Jacob’s chestnut eyes and hoped he wasn’t like ‘all the other Slytherin guys’. She didn’t particularly want to be hurt by yet another guy, but, it was Christmas, and so she’d take a chance on him. “Sure,” she replied, smiling taking his hand and letting him led her onto the dance floor.
“Shanghai,” she replied, smiling, “Well about half an hour from it, what about you two?”
Dawn smiled slightly, “Really? Last I heard you were one of the heartthrobs of Gryffindor house Mr Potter,” she replied teasingly. Of course, being one of the few pretty girls who were not really socially accepted, Dawn didn’t really know that much about guys and what not. However, she had heard Lance’s name mentioned highly among the girls who gossiped in the girl’s bathroom.

Heart fluttering, head whirling, Chole kissed back. She kept telling herself mentally to let him know what she really felt, but to her this was like a fairy tale, there wasn't going to be a happy ending to this. And who says that Jake didn't just want to have a go with her again? Chole was so confused, she needed something besides a kiss and an apology to really know that Jake cared for her.
Once on the dance floor, Jacob entwined their fingers together, then with his free hand, placed it lightly at her waist. He smiled, hoping that there were mostly slow songs as he liked being closer to her, meant that they didn't have to yell back and forth to each other is a wild song came on. He sighed in contentment, and smiled at her.
"Hang-chou" Rei replied, and Shang replied,"Peking."
"R-Really? Uh, that's a first. I didn't know that I was a 'heartthrob'." He gave a smirk, his ego boosted up a bit, but he never showed what little ego he had anyways. "That's nice, but still. I'm not into that stuff. Most girls that gossip, according to one of my friends, and it's been proved true. They want one of two things, or both. And that is to look go with a guy, making it seem like he's her accessory, or they just want to go to bed with you. I know, it sound more that a guy would want that, and that's true, but not for me." Lance blushed, he was rambling on about nothing, or to him it was nothing. He turned his head until the bright red of his cheeks toned down.

Dawn felt a little bad for her comment as Lance started to blush, it was cute really. She’d never really talked to him, but she scolded herself for expecting him to be like she thought he would be – cocky, annoying and loud. He was actually kind of cute, sweet and slightly shy. Giving him time to stop blushing she lowered her eyes to the table and took a sip of her drink, when he did look up again she spoke, “So, when’s the food coming? I’m starving.”
Jake felt a wave of relief when Chole kissed him back, it was finally sorted, well he thought it was anyway. He broke away from the kiss and smiled moving slightly closer to her as they danced. It was going fine until some one; some all too familiar blonde haired Ravenclaw girl tapped his shoulder. Looking around Jake came face to face with Scarlette – did they ever get a break?
“Cool, cool,” Eryn commented when Rei spoke to her, “I think you’ll like tonight, the Headmistress booked a great band, it should be a blast.”
Cammie felt most of her doubt about Jacob melt away as they started to dance – he was even better now as he wasn’t in that stiff suit of armour. However, when she cast her mind around for something to talk about she realised how little they had actually spoken, and how little she knew about him. Looking up, she had to seeing as he was so much taller than her, she said, “So… Jacob, is it just Jacob? Not Jake or… Jakey or anything?” the last one had obviously been a joke, but she wondered if he did shorten his name – Jacob seemed very formal to her.

Lance shrugged. "I dunno, but I hope it's soon. I'm starving as well." His blushed had since faded away, and he gave Dawn a smile. He fell silent, and shook his head mentally. He was so bad when it came to talk to girls.
Chole had had a smile on her face, but it dissipated when she saw Scarlette. This was were the problems began, if it wasn't for Scarlette, Chole and Jake would be fine. Chole backed away from Jake, and shook her head. God! she thought, and began to walk away. She wasn't in the mood to deal with Scarlette, and if anyone hadn't noticed she'd become more mature about it. Hence her walking away. However, in a sarcastic voice Chole said,"Nice to see ya Scarlette."
Rei smiled,"I can't wait."
Jacob smiled, and replied,"Most call me Jacob. But I have been called J, and Jakey by my sisters." Really, he didn't care what he was called, as long as it was dealing with any aspect of his name.

Dawn smiled to him after he spoke and sipped some more of her drink, she didn’t find the silence that fell between them uncomfortable in the slightest and hoped he didn’t either but she could sense he was feeling uncomfortable so, whilst looking around the hall she said, “Looks like everyone’s dancing… you wanna give it a shot? I mean you’re all dressed up for it,” she said, hoping he understood it was purely on friendly bases.
Nearly completely horrified at what was happening Jake turned away from Scarlette to follow Chole, calling after her, “Chol? Chol, please wait a second,” he grabbed her wrist to stop her walking away, but not hard, just enough to stop her. Turning her around he said, “Look Chole… I didn’t ask her to come up to us – she doesn’t mean anything to me… but you…” he looked at the floor, “you mean everything. I wasn’t dancing with Scarlette was I? I was dancing with you. I was talking to you, I wanted to be with you,” he looked at her slightly sadly, “You are the only person in this entire school I want to be with tonight, I love you,” the last three words had somehow slipped out with out being asked, and he felt a slight jolt of shock pass through him after he said it. Why did he have to go and say it? Now Chole would just think he was being stupid, and completely soppy and he couldn’t even take the words back. He meant them after all, but he hadn’t meant to go shouting about it.
Eryn smiled to Rei and then sipped her drink, letting the other professor talk to her husband if she wanted.
Cammie grinned, “Okay… I think I’ll call you,” she thought for a second then decided upon, “J – it has a certain ring to it,” she added smiling, she then left the conversation open to Jacob, or J as she now called him to ask questions.
Alex hadn’t been planning on attending the Christmas ball, what kind of babysitter would work on Christmas? However, he’d managed to arrange for Sammie to be looked after by her grandparents who were visiting them for the holiday. And although his other kids, Tammy and Aidan, had begged him not to attend the dance he’d come anyway. On entering the hall Alex immediately decided the English went to a lot more bother, decoration side of things, for Christmas. But like back in Australia everyone was happy and having a good time, however he spotted one person who this didn’t seem to apply to. He walked over to them, “Not having a good time?” he asked the Headmistress.

Lance looked at Dawn, and smiled. "Sure." He offered her his arm, and led her to the dance floor.
Chole had been looking down at the floor while he talked until she heard his last three words. Her heart skipped a few beats, she looked up abruptly. "Y-You.... You do?" she asked, she couldn't believe this. She looked at Scarlette, then back to Jake. She swallowed hard, and she gave a dumbfounded look. Holy shit! she thought. Chole opened her mouth to say something, but the words didn't come out. This was what she needed, definatley.
Rei smiled, and chatted with her husband for a few. She then turned to Eryn,"You didn't come with someone?"
Jacob smiled, and twirled her around a little, then dipped her. "So Miss Tate, tell more about yourself. Your favorite color? Favorite flower? You know, your favorites."
Odette turned around as she heard the familiar Australian accent. She smiled,"I'm having fun, just watching the students." She looked back at a student couple she'd been watching, which was in fact Jake and Chole. Then she turned back to Alex, and her smile grew wider. "How are you? How are your children? Everything all right?"

“I must warn you though,” said Dawn, who by now felt very out of place dancing with one of the best dressed guys in the room, whilst still wearing some jeans, converses and a purple t-shirt, “I’m not the best dancer in the world…” in fact she hadn’t done so since her very first year, at the Halloween ball, that was when she decided she hated this stupid affairs.
Jake, who had a feeling like some one very heavy, was sitting on his chest, managed to say, “Yeah… I do,” slightly hoarsely, he had no idea what to do next, telling people you loved them, earnestly, was not something he did every day of the week. So he just stood there, for one of the first times in his life, unsure of himself.
“Oh, no… in all honesty I was hoping Professor Haven would show up, but I just heard that Odette’s sister, Hayley, is pregnant with his child,” she said, smiling, but also wondering what would’ve happened, back on that night at the start of term, if she had continued to dance with Jonathan. But it was no use dwelling on what could’ve been, he was with Hayley now, and there was nothing she could do about it, so she’d just have to learn to live with it.
Cammie giggled slightly as Jacob swung her, “You’re quite the dancer aren’t you?” she grinned. Then when she was brought upright again she answered his question, “Favourite colour?” she paused slightly for thought, “Purple? No… red, no purply mauve, not the red one but the purply one. Actually, scrap that I like silver,” she said, smiling at the fact that she’d made such a fuss over such an easy question. But she found she did that a lot; smile that is, when she was around Jacob, “Okay… next one… favourite flower? Hmm, I don’t really know any flowers, what about red roses – it’s obvious I know, but they’re cool. Other favourites?” she said, thinking aloud, she couldn’t actually think of anything else to say so she finished off with the joke they’d had together since they’d met, “And of course, you are my favourite knight.”
Alex smiled, “Bonzer,” he replied to her, his eye’s following his gaze to the couple on the dance floor, “Oh the kids? They’re alright, Sammie’s at her grandparents and the other two are in here somewhere, probably hiding from me embarrassing them actually,” he grinned, “What about you?”

Lance smiled,"I'm not the best either. However, I'm sure we'll do fine."
Chole smiled, and moved closer to him. She looked into his eyes, as if reading what they said. She kissed him lightly, her eyes closing for the few seconds that she kissed. She pulled away slowly,"And I love you."
Rei looked at her friend, and nodded. "I'm sorry hun. What about that new professor? Professor Johnson is it? Not Olivia, but Tyler?"
Jacob smiled all awhile she talked, he looked hearing about her. At her joke he chuckled lightly. "And you were my favorite... uh.. Oy! Seems I've forgotten what you went as.. Sorry..?"
Odette smiled at his comment about his children being embarrassed by him, it was a parent thing. She used to embarrassed over her mother when she was younger. "I'm good. Speaking of children, has Hayley told you the good news?" As far as Odette knew, her sister was working for Alex.

Dawn grinned, “I’m sure you’re right,” she replied. The dance was not too slow but not too fast either and so it wasn’t too hard for the couple of fit in.
Jake was, to say the least, a little shocked by what happened next. Of course, it was shocked in a good way, but still he hadn’t expected it. When she drew away from the kiss he was grinning widely, not knowing what else to say or do he scooped her up in a giant hug, and in the style of some romantic movie he’d once been forced to sit through, spun her around.
Cammie raised one eyebrow, in mock anger, “You should be,” she said, before breaking into a grin, “I’m was the fantastic Cat Woman,” she added, “But don’t worry you’ll never going to see me in that stupid PVC suit ever again,” she’d thrown it out after the ball - it was extremely tight.
Eryn shrugged, “I’m sure he’s a really nice guy but…” she felt bad for saying it, “He’s not really… I don’t fancy him,” she added, and then trying to change the subject she said, “You’re lucky, I’ll probably never get married and end up the old woman who lives alone with loads of cats… sorry if I sound bitter.”
“Oh yeah,” Alex replied, smiling, “she must be really happy – having kids was the best part of my life, and marrying my wife,” he said.
