Miriam slowly stood, not looking at Skylar. She sat in a corner of the sofa, seated primly on the edge of it. Her head, however, did not move, as she could perform such manuevers without looking.

She didn't answer at first, but then nodded slightly. How could she feelings when she didn't understand them herself? The answer was easy: She couldn't.

She shook her head slightly, staring into the fire. Pictures seemed to unfold in the flames, and she gave an almost silent sigh.

"Miriam?" Skylar said, his voice pleading for her to say something.

She looked at him, and then looked away. "It's nothing," she said quietly, staring back into the fire. "Nothing." Even that word, though, struck a melancoly chord, and she bit her lip, sighing again.

Skylar stood up, and shook his head. He went over to a table where water had been put out for those that got thirsty, they were able to have something to drink. He poured himself a glass, then looked over at her. "Want something to drink?" he asked her, being polite.

She nodded slightly, raising her a head a bit to do so. Standing, she walked over and stood beside him, waiting until he was done so she could pour a glass without risking bumping in to him.

He was going to pour her a glass, but when she came over, he moved out of the way. He sipped at his water a little, watching her slightly.

With movements trained to expertise, she picked up a glass, tossed it once with one hand as the other moved to get the pitcher, caught the glass as she raised the pitcher, then held both steady as she poured. When she had been caught the last time, David had only left her with a few things. She had learned to amuse herself.

She noticed his smile, and gave a small smile back as she sipped the drink. "I used to have a lot of time on my hands," she said softly, almost in way of explanation.
