“Jake,” he replied, not adding his last name as she hadn’t added hers, it was quite odd meeting some one new in Slytherin, especially since he was on the Qudditch team and Head of House, normally people knew him, or at least his face. Trying to think of who the girl could be, Miriam wasn’t exactly a common name, Jake cast his mind around. It was odd he didn’t know her, let alone never heard of her, then he remembered, “Wait a minute, you’re not Jacob’s sister are you?”

She smiled slightly. "Guilty as charged. And my punishment?" It was fun to put a good side to those words, seeing as how they were normally used in her life. She cast an anxious glance around, then relaxed when she didn't see what she was looking for, turning her attention back to Jake.

Jake grinned at her words, but the wondered what she turned around so sharply to see, it was weird, as though she was expecting some one to be there – some one who’s intentions were not good. Jake however banished these thoughts from his head, “Are you okay?” he asked, slightly concernedly as she turned around.

She shook her head a bit. "I'm fine." Yet even as she said this, she cringed at feeling the presence appearing behind her.
"Miriam." The word was spoken in such a short manner that one could not help but notice its owner seemed to use it with a possessive tone. "I thought I told you not to speak to men."
She turned to the owner of the voice, a tall young man with dark hair and burning blue eyes. He was muscled, but had much less scars along his body. His open shirt and loose pants spoke of hidden weapons, and a ready will to use them. This was not an opponent for an amateur. "I'm sorry, David. I have wronged you again." She was shaking now, enough to send out small rings through the water. She left the pool, taking a towel from nearby and wrapping it around her waist. David, however, walked over and took it, wrapping it higher so it was under her armpits and tying it tightly behind her. She gritted her teeth against a hidden pain and stood still.
David finally stepped back. "You're due in the rooms, remember? You wouldn't wish to be late." The tone of his voice spoke of a harsh punishment if this happened, and she shivered. "As you wish, sir." She cast a last look at Jake before leaving, wishing desperately that she had either never met him, or that he would miraculously come to her rescue. LATER It was near midnight, and she was tiptoeing her way back to her rooms. Fresh, open wounds now marked her back and upper arms, and she winced as if each step jarred a certain area, causing new pain. Still, she was not surprised when a new curse flung her against a wall, her legs spread. She bit back most of a cry, but one echoed down the hall even with her teeth firmly clenched. In a last rebellion, Miriam turned her head, her body relaxing in its bonds as she surrendered to the man who was already alternating between cutting her torso and fumbling with his pants. Faintly she wished someone would come, but who would be up at this time of night?

Jake looked on at the scene before him shocked, the man talking to Miriam obviously meant business and Jake wanted to defend the girl. However, he didn’t have a wand, or any other means of defence against the guy and, although he was treating Miriam a bit roughly, there was nothing to say that Miriam was not okay with it all. After all, she looked a bit nervous, or even frightened, but he, although he wanted to, couldn’t do anything about it at the moment. Even if he tried to now they were around the other side of the pool, they’d be gone before he could even say anything. And so, helpless Jake had to watch on as the man led her away.
Once the pair had gone Jake didn’t know what to do with himself, follow them? In sopping wet swimming trunks, he thought not. What could he do, except check she was all right later… doubtless to say she probably wouldn’t want the teaching staff at Hogwarts knowing about it, even if there was something to know about? So, mind troubled, Jake made his way up to the castle, deciding to wait until Miriam got back to ask her what happened.
Later…
It was dark in the Slytherin common room and nearly all inhabitants had gone to bed, with two exceptions. Both boys, but of different years, heights, builds and both having obviously different reasons for still being in the common room. On the one hand, sitting uncomfortably restless was Jake. He was still fully dressed and had stayed in more or less the same spot since before dinner. His mind was back to when Miriam had vanished with the stranger at the pool. He knew he should have done something about it, he should have acted then, but he hadn’t and so, he was still here at eleven forty-five, worrying about a girl he’d only met once.
On the other hand, sitting by the fire, on the long cushy sofa was Damien Riddle, a large hardback book rested on his folded knees. His book was lit by the firelight alone, and he found only now could he enjoy himself properly in the common room, now when every one else was in bed, and no one was there to bother him. Dressed in his flannel pyjamas, reading glasses propped up on the third year’s nose – it was him who heard the noise first. Damien’s ears pricked up when he heard a dull thumping sound coming from the corridor outside of the common room. Damien, who’s eye sight wasn’t the best from reading in dark places as he was now, had decided before that his lack of good eye sight was made up for excellent hearing, and so he trusted his ears when he heard the thump. He looked up from his book, wondering what on earth the noise could’ve been, he was alone in the common room, well apart from another, older boy who sometimes paced around, but the noise wasn’t coming from that boy’s direction, no it was defiantly coming from out of the corridor. He looked over at the boy, breathed in, to get enough courage to speak and then said, “Uh, e-excuse me…” he quickly took off his glasses, “But did you hear…” just before he finished speaking a cry that Damien definitely hadn’t imagined echoed around the corridor.
Jake, who, although being in alert state, was still too busy in his concerns for Miriam, didn’t hear the thump looked up at the small boy. He wasn’t really in the mood for conversation, but then when the cry erupted from the hall he was on his feet. Walking past the boy he was immediately out in the corridor, his wand in hand, the tip shedding light into the corridor. Shocked at what the scene in front of him was, Jake was still quick to react. Lunging forward he grabbed the back of the man’s collar and yanked him off Miriam, “Hey! Back off!” he said, fiercely.

Instantly David reached for his knife, but as he did so his attention on Miriam's bonds weakened. She struggled enough to get her wand, and sent a "stupefy" nearby. He ran, taking the warning, as she fell onto the floor. There, she looked up at Jake with all the expectations of a beaten cur, waiting for someone new to take the old one's place. Then realizing she had made eye contact, she hurriedly looked down and managed to stand. "Thank you," she muttered quietly. Now, however, she faced a problem. She could barely stand. How would she now walk to her own potion storage and get the healing needed? She mentally sighed, but remained physically still and silent to the view of all.

Jake also sent a spell at the man, his however missed only by an inch as the man ran off down the corridor. He then focused his attention on Miriam, she seemed in a very bad way. She had gotten to her feet in the time Jake had watched the man run, and so as she stood, scared and drawn he ducked down and put her arm around his shoulders. Then, half carrying her, half letting her walk, he stumbled with her back into the common room, and then, not waiting for her permission, sat her on one of the couches. “Shit… Miriam?” he said, crouching in front of the girl, trying to regain her eye contact.
Damien, who’d by now snapped shut his book and pocketed his glasses had watched the entire scene from the doorway. He was now sat on a seat facing the couch, not knowing what to do to help.

She was able to keep a straight face, but she felt ready to pass out by the time they reached the couch. Once there, she kept her head bent and eyes down, her back ramrod straight, although it hurt like fire was licking it.
Shit....... Miriam?
She raised her head only slightly to reply, barely restraining herself from coughing or clearing her throat. "Yes sir?" She wanted to shrink in the couch, especially when she realized they had an audience, but she kept still. Her vision, however, refused to focus, and she swayed once before regaining control.

Jake swallowed, “Miriam, are you okay?” she was pretty beaten up, but nothing looked as though it needed immediate attention, “Look… is there anywhere which hurts… a lot? Do you need me to go get anyone for you?”

She shook her head immediately. "No sir. I'm fine. Really." She wondered if he noticed how different her attitude was, or the fact that she was calling him 'sir'. She doubted it, but right then she was starting to pass out. "I.... I'm sorry I.... inconvenienced you," she said, right before she passed out, lying on the couch. Her last thought was of her father, and the punishment she was sure to gain through her actions. (Aka, you can have someone send for her father)

To say Jake was a little freaked out would be an understatement. He was of course curious as to why she was calling him sir, but there were much more pressing matters at hand than that right now. As she started to pass out he placed both his hands on the top of her arms and tried to make eye contact with her, "Miriam? Miriam... I need you to stay with me. Focus, look at me. Listen, there is nothing to apologise for - but you have to try and stay with me," however it was no good, and she passed out. Jake made sure she was sitting comfortably before doing anything else. Turning to Damien he said, "Okay, you... go write an owl to her father. Her name is Miriam, Miriam," he had to think for a second, what had she said her last name was? Thinking back to the time she had introduced herself in the pool he remembered she'd neglected to tell him her surname. But then he'd guessed it, what was it? He knew that he knew it, he just think of it. It was on the tip of his tongue... "Miriam Snape, said an owl to the Snape house. After you've done that... and only after, see if you can find a decent teacher. She's pretty bruised up. Professor Haven maybe, some one who's not going to make a fuss. Have you got that?"
Damien, who never liked taking orders decided to comply, he nodded, "Send an owl to the Snapes, then find Professor Haven," with that he shot off up to the owlery to send a very important letter via eagle owl, the letter would take what? Five minutes to arrive.
Jake watched Damien go, then not wanting Miriam to wake alone, sat down on the corner of the sofa she lying on. Conjuring a small towel he then dipped the corner in the jug of water. Pressing it lightly on Miriam's forhead, he hoped she'd be alright. When she finally did awake he said softly, "Hey... welcome back."

She seemed to struggle with herself to awake, and when she did, wished she was asleep again. It was Jake, and he would have questions. Questions she had been ordered not to answer. Questions that could end up with her dead. She couldn't afford questions. Still, she answer. "I'm sorry, sir. I guess I'm more tired than I thought."

Jake narrowed his eyes at her, not out of anger, but because he was concerned, trying to work out what was wrong. "Miriam? Please, listen to me. You don't have to call me sir, alright? Now... if you want to sleep, that's not a problem, but you have to wait a minute. Okay? Can you wait for a moment?"

When he narrowed his eyes, her body flinched back as if anticipating a strike. As he spoke, her eyes flicked between his hands and his face, waiting for the hit, trying to know where it would come from. So busy with this was she barely heard his words, and gave her usual reply: "Whatever you say." She refrained from the sir, since it was obvious he didn't like it, and she couldn't truly call him "m'lord" in many circumstances.

Jake knew she hadn't heard him, from the tone and words of her reply. It was obvious that she was honestly scared and so Jake sighed slightly and stopped talking. Deciding the best thing to do, would be to sit tight and wait for her father to arrive.
