Miriam sighed as she walked into the pool room. Her outfit changed into a black tankini with green and silver stripes along the edges as she came around to the deepest edge.
Backing up a bit, she made a short race in and dived, arms at her sides and eyes wide open. Only a small splash signaled her entrance, but she still smacked herself for it. Her mind turned to numerous ways to disarm a single opponent as she made her way to the next end with strong strokes, coming up only once every minute to breathe. Her father had taught her well.

Jake had been having a pretty shit time, all day. Not only were things with Chole going bad, Adler was no where to be found and his position on the Qudditch team had been threatened because he’d beaten up some Gryffindor sleaze who’d been talking about Krys in a way which could only lead to him getting beaten up by her brother. However, the Gryffindor had fought back and given Jake a black eye, and a hard knee to the groin, which, as all this had happened only fifteen minutes ago, was still sore.
He’d decided to come down to the pool for some peace and quiet. Aside from Qudditch, swimming was one of his passions, alongside basketball and football. Jake took his shirt off to reveal a perfectly toned, muscular torso, kicked off his shoes and dived into the pool. When he resurfaced he noticed a pretty girl from the year below in his house dive into the pool, it was an extremely neat dive and he would of commented on it, when she went hurtling down the pool. She was a very good swimmer, and Jake knew if she ever had the opportunity to beat him a race his man pride would be severely damaged.
Swimming down to the end of the pool where she was, Jake swam perfect front crawl – he was determined to show off he was just as good as her. As he came up for air he shook the water out of his hair like a wet dog, spraying it everywhere, only afterwards noticing it was right in the girl’s face, “…Sorry,” he said, a small, cute, sheepish smile on his face.

She rolled her eyes, then raised them to the ceilling, praying this wasn't some lame come-on. "It's fine," she replied in a clipped tone, working a slow swim back to the other end, now thinking on the numerous pain-inflicting potions, or the works from her chastity vow. Sighing, she went underwater, thinking about the last meeting. What a wonderfully boring life. If only something new would happen!

Jake decided he’s some how annoyed the girl – he’d said sorry after all. Women. Just then he looked up to see a certain Ravenclaw girl who, Jake decided, was stalking him.
“Jaaaaaaake!” wailed Scarlette running towards him, bay watch style. She shot the other girl a nasty look whilst passing her.
“Oh go away,” Jake muttered, annoyed, what did she want now? Scarlette who didn’t take the hint, as if she’d ever taken one in her entire life, slid into the pool next to him and started to wrap herself around him. Jake desperately tried to disentangle himself, and once he did swam as far away from Scarlette as he could. She however followed him, and then, seeing as Jake had swam towards the end of the pool where Miriam was she almost hissed at the other girl. Immediately thinking something was going on between them. “You stay away from my man! You whore!” she said before spitting a whole gob of saliva at the girl’s face. Horrified Jake grabbed Scarlette around the middle and pulled her away, “God, I’m so sorry… she has problems,” Jake had time to apologise.

Miriam wiped the spit off, her steady gaze never moving from the girl's face. "Oh, it's fine." Under the water, however, she sent a subtle curse of oblivion, and watched the girl's face become limp. "Go find a dog. I hear they like to cuddle." She dove again, chuckling under her breathe before realizing that the girl she had just cursed could have meant something to that guy..... Dangit! She was supposed to keep herself from earning attention, after what had happened before......

After the girl swam off, Scarlette burst into tears, “Sh-she cursed me,” she bawled onto Jake’s shoulder, who could do anything but pat her on the back. “Look, go up to the castle and I’ll see you there in a minute okay?” Scarlette nodded and left. As much as he hated her, Jake couldn’t help but to swim up to the girl. “Oi!” he said, before swimming closer, “Hey – you! I know she’s a pain in the arse… but she has problems like I said… you didn’t have to go and curse her!” he added angrily.

She bit her lip and schooled her features to show nothing but anger at being stopped and indifference to her actions. She did, however, continue to swim, heading towards an area where she could jump out and get to the windows if need be. "I merely took away her memory, that's all. Or at least, what she think she knows. It's easiest, so what can I say?" She was completely tense now. Every muscle rigid to the point of quivering. She began to take deep breaths, calming herself, then diving again to hide the effects of this small fit from her audience, cursing herself for letting go. I'll stay in my room before I give way!

Angry, Jake watched the girl dive in. He was used to this kind of thing with Krys, so he took the high road and didn’t try to provoke the girl any further. He swiftly lifted himself onto the pool side and sat with his legs in the water, this day was just getting better and better.

Finally she surfaced in the middle of the pool. Her back to him, she sighed before doing a half-turn. "I'm sorry, alright? I just don't like to be bothered by dim-wit crazy-minded witches." She crossed her arms and waited for a mad reply.

Jake shook his head slightly, he didn’t realise it but he was pouting. “Fine,” he replied, “Just… that girl, Scarlette, she’s not right in the head,” he added, trying to make her see why it bothered him so much. He knew it must’ve taken the girl a lot of self-control to apologise to him, he decided, “Look, thanks of like… apologising. ‘preciate it.”

She shrugged slightly. "It's fine. You're welcome." She bit her lip again, then asked "Should I apologize to her?" She turned slightly and noticed he was pouting a bit, which just made her smirk, and some of the tension flowed out.

"Nah, she'll be fine," he replied looking up to where Scarlette had just left. Then, feeling that the atmosphere would become a little awkward if they didn't continue talking he said, "I saw your dive earlier - it was really good. Do you have lessons?"

She nodded. "My father taught me until a few years ago. Since then, I practice daily to remember." Turning, she looked at him. "What about you? Do you know any fancy stuff?"

He shrugged, "Not much, some flips and stuff, but that only on a board," he said, he smiled slightly when he tried to imagine his father teaching him to swim - the closest thing to ever doing anything fatherly towards his kids Terry Higgs had ever done was supply Krys with weed.

Miriam finally turned completely. "My name is Miriam. Yours?" She didn't offer her last name. She didn't want stares, or anything that came with her being a Snape, and therefore trained for almost anything.
